1950 BMW R51/2

I found this 1950 BMW R51/2 in Los Angeles.  It was originally exported to the USA by Glockler.  The bike had sat in a sorry state for many years.  Luckily it retained a significant number of period sport and racing parts retailed in the 1950's by ex-BMW Works racer "Schorsch" Meier.

Tear Down

I tore down the bike, careful to catalogue what was missing, and then spent the next several years sourcing parts.  I was lucky enough to locate numerous new-old-stock (NOS) parts in the US and Germany.  In addition, I sourced and fabricated missing parts and pieces to complete my vision for the bike.

The Rebuild

The rebuild took longer than I anticipated, complicated by many factors.  Sometimes life gets in the way.  Sourcing and fabricating parts can takes months or years.  Motivation waxes and wanes.  Alas, the bike ended up the embodying the vision I had for it from the beginning.
